This International Summer Course was started in 2012 to provide fundamental knowledge on “Single Molecule/Nanoparticle Spectroscopy and Imaging” to graduate students, postdocs, and young researchers, as the knowledge was indispensable in chemistry, material and bio science, and related fields. The relevant nano science and technology had developed and matured, following which we changed our subject to “Nano Material Discovery” in 2019 and are continuously holding it. Unfortunately, it could not be opened in 2020 and 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but it was recovered last year by Online. The number of the total participants for 2012-2019 and 2022 counts 1118 and the Summer Course is regarded as one nice activity of DAC of NYCU.
We have invited internationally famous professors as the Course lectures and co-organized it with NTHU, Australian, and/or Japanese research projects. Now this Summer Course is set as a formal course of the Continuing Education Center of NYCU and participating students can receive 1-credit upon full attendance and approval by examination. This credit can be transferred not only to universities in Taiwan but even to foreign university under the related agreement.
The 10th International Summer Course is co-organized by our NYCU Project (Center for Emergent Functional Matter Science) and JSPS (Japan Society for Promotion of Science) and its subject is Dynamic Exciton as emergent science and technology. Exciton study has already long history, while it is receiving more attention as fundamental processes of solar cell, emitting diode, molecular device, photocatalysis, photochemical reaction, living cell, and so on. Now the world is changing, and the paradigm shift is taking in science and technology, particularly focusing to semiconductor industries. We believe this International Summer Course is enough useful for graduate students and young researchers to understand fundamental concepts, important methodologies, and material innovation of the coming new era.
